Barber Program (1800 Hours)

The Barber Program is ideal for students with no prior barbering experience or training who are seeking a career as a licensed barber, barbershop owner or manager. The Program prepares the student for the Ohio Cosmetology and Barber Board examination and provides the knowledge and skills to be employable in the profession as a licensed Barber. 

The objective of the program is to give our students the academic and practical tools needed to succeed in the barbering profession. In addition to classroom study, supervised practical training gives students hands on training.  Students may complete the program in as little as ten and a half months (10.5) months.

THEORETICAL  STUDY

Theoretical study provides students with comprehensive instruction on the scientific fundamentals of barbering to help them develop an understanding of industry standards and practices.  Topics covered include:

  • Safety and Sanitation
  • Client Services
  • Shaving
  • Use of Chemicals
  • Secondary Services

PRACTICAL SKILLS

Students receive valuable hands-on instruction in:

  • Regular men’s haircutting
  • Razor cutting
  • Styling and coloring
  • Hot oil shampoo and shampoo tonic
  • Scalp treatments
  • Various types of facials and facial shaving
  • Barbershop duties and management essentials

The program is rounded out by the study of barbering history, law, state rules and regulations as well as basic business management  The program is the foundation for a quality barbering education and students enjoy the experience of being immersed in the barbering atmosphere with like-minded peers. Also, one (1) hour of human trafficking education is included in the course (a requirement of the State Board).
